Our relationship is one of the few good things to come out of the Covid pandemic! We met through a dating app in May 2020 while stuck inside during lockdown. Our first several dates were WhatsApp video calls – and we had to get creative, like trying to watch the same movie at the same time in different houses or both cooking Indian food and showing each other the results! We had our first in-person date at the end of June 2020, but it had to be outside in the communal gardens at Laura’s flat and we had to stay 6 feet apart at all times. At some point in July 2020, we were allowed to form a ‘bubble’ and have been inseparable ever since!
In August 2022, we took a trip to the US that started off with a few nights in Chicago. After jokingly saying she couldn’t marry him without seeing him without facial hair, Laura was suspicious that something was up when Callum shaved his beard off just before the trip. It turns out he did, indeed, propose on the first night of the trip just before a boat tour of Chicago’s architecture that finished off with watching the fireworks over Navy Pier.
Our relationship has definitely had a non-traditional start – we didn’t even go to the movies together until almost a year in! Our first foreign vacation together was after 2 years dating and most of our earliest memories as a couple consist of cooking together and watching tv inside the house. After starting out like this, we can’t wait to get married and explore more of the world together!
